Gannon,

Excellent post, or article. It is very timely for me. I consider your blog a modern day Tavern or Junto.

Thanks for taking the time to write in such depth. I look forward to collaborating with you moving forward.

I look forward to the new equation explanation. I must say I took your equation at face value and realize I need to dig a little deeper.

Cam,

You are correct and I have replaced the equation. I'll write a more thorough analysis of how the logic was flawed, so anyone reading can see exactly what you were referring to in your comment.

Although this is a few blog posts ahead of schedule, I just wanted to point out how your comment demonstrates the value of collaboration. It is hard sometimes to see the flaws in our own thinking, but by being open to the ideas of others, a form of calibration takes place. Errors in knowledge and ideas get exposed, and our thinking becomes refined and more accurate through the collaborative process.

Thanks,

Gannon

I recommend a change to the equation. The way it is now, the reading, experimentation, and collaboration is inversely proportional to expertise, and it seems that needs to be the other way around. If the 10,000 hours (5 to 10 years) is constant, than there is no drawback to having that in the denominator, the way there is with the variable (reading, experimentation, collaboration) is.

Just flip that around, and I think you're onto something.
